black mask

This is me when I was 2 months old. Shiba puppies have black furs around the nose called a "black mask", and the mask disappears after a few months. Was I cute or what? I mean, I was a cute, fuzzy, and round little puppy. I am still as cute as that now, right? Right? Right?

Dogs rule!

Even buildings are shaped like dogs. This inn in Idaho is 2 stories. I think that inns are shaped like dogs because we are the dominant. Oh, and speaking of dominant, my owner and I are still watching the "Dog Whisperer". It is a great show about we dogs!

Puny Praying Puppy

I already know the praying position when I try to get a cookie from my owner, but I am not that good! That sharp puppy looks serious... Something i never do. Now I need to learn to stay in the position for half hour at a time, not pant while i do it, stay still, and not look up at my owner with "puppy dog eyes".

Here comes the Easter Bunny!!

Next time my owners say that I am chubby, I should show them this bunny picture. My buddy Hoppy the rabbit is also chubby, but she is less than one-tenth the size of this blubber rabbit. I bet that neither of us can weight that much! I do not think that guy is very happy about holding that bunny! This bunny is not likely to be deliverying any Easter eggs soon.

triplet tiger cubs at SF zoos

These cubs are 10 days old. How cute! I can tell that the one in the picture is trying to wiggle free with its arm stretched out straight. My owner says that sometimes house cats do that. All cats are cute when they stretch like that. I have to admit that I do that alot! Maybe I am part cat?

Rough life in the White House

These Scottish terriers belong to President Bush. They must be some majestic dogs, living in the white house. I wonder what life would be for them... They probably have their own brand of dog food, groomed all the time, have hundreds of dog toys around the house, and each have their own bedroom! I do not know if i can survive all that!

Iditarod winner

This is the winner of Iditarod in Alaska. They traveled 1,100 miles in 9 1/2 days. This guy gets $69,000 plus a new truck. The lead dog's name is Handsome. Handsome did all the work, I wonder how much of the prize money he gets. Well, if my owner won and I was lead dog, I know that she would guaranteed at least:

1.A new set of doggie toys
2.A new bed
3.Luxery dog food and treats
4.Endless love
5.Nothing but relaxing for the rest of my life.

Thinking ablout that makes me want to race, but I will never manage. I respect the lead dog, Handsome.

Iditarod is ending!

The Iditarod race in Alaska is almost ending. The leading team is only three checkpoints away from Nome (the destination) out of about 25 checkpoints. I would have quit by first check point, it would be sooo cold! (attack of the numb paws ...). Hey, there is a dog in the picture that looks like me! It sure looks cold there with all that ice and snow, and those dogs have nerve...a whole lot of nerve! got great pictures of Alaska for purchase and/or download

World's ugliest dog

Next time my owner complaints that I look weird with clumps of winter fur hanging off my butt, I should show her this picture. This dog was crowned the world's ugliest dog in a dog show. I don't look like that! Right?

Almost human

People say walking upright is what makes human better than other animals. I am not so sure about that. I can walk upright when my owner holds a doggie cookie high up above me. This baby polar bear from a zoo in Germany can also be upright. So either the bear and me are as intelligent as human, or it is not a big deal to be upright. Wait! but we are as intelligan as humans!

Frozen in Alaska?

I knew it was too cold in Alaska for the Iditarod race. Glad I am not there. I mean, that looks like they are frozen in the snow! Those ice sculptures look real though, the ears, and the plump little tummys. well, that must be cold!

Hedgehog buddy

In Germany, hedgehogs are very popular with kids and adults. Recently MacDonald's in Germany had to change the lid design for the MacFlurry because over 100 hedgehogs were killed when they got stucked in the lids.

My owners were thinking about getting a hedgehog as a play buddy for me but hedgehogs are illegal in California (ok in some other states though). Good thing they are illigal, because hedgehog will be a big PAIN around the house. (get it? "PAIN"?)

Top dog in the country

My owners were discussing the dog that won the Best of Show at the Westminster Dog Show in New York a couple of weeks ago. They said that it was a beagle named Uno who howled a lot and acted goofy. Hmm, maybe next year I should enter the show. I howl a lot and I am pretty goofy too.

Cute "puppy"

My owner received these emailed pictures from her friend. The mommy dog adopted the piglet when the piglet was abandoned by her mom.

Who said dogs can't climb trees

While lying in the sun, I saw a lizard scampering up a tree. Being a shiba inu (ie, expert bird and small animal hunter), I decided to chase after the lizard. Not sure what I would have done if I catch it. The lizard went up a yukka tree. Must have been the Japanese Ninja blood in me, because I went half way up this big yukka tree by jumping on the branches. I was six feet up before I realized I was on a tree, and leaped back down. Of course the lizard disappeared despite my barking. Next time my best buddy Raven the cat comes over for a visit, I have to get a tree climbing lesson from her on how to get to the top.

Call of the Wild

The Iditarod dog race started yesterday. It is a dog race that starts from Anchorage, Alaska to Nome, an 1,100 mile race. Wow, I would love to be one of those dogs there, out in the wild, fresh air blowing at my face, lots of other dogs to hang out, and run every day. All these cameras clicking, people cheering, how exciting to be out in the race. But I am not so sure I like the snow. Alaska looks cold. It is March already and they still got snow? I am a bit of a chicken when it comes to cold weather.
Also, come to think of it, it looks like hard work pulling that heavy sleigh. Maybe I will stick to baking myself in the sun with 70 degree weather here in California.

The attack of the "Furminator"

It has been spring-like and sunny all week, so I have been lying in the sun baking myself. One of the side effect of baking myself is my winter fur starts to come off, getting fur all over the house.
So my owner decided to brush me with this funny looking thing. It pulls the undercoat off, but I don't like it and managed to get away from her every time.
She tried to sneak up on me and brush me when I was eating. But I out-smarted her. I kept going around in circle while having my face in my bowl eating. That took a lot of skill to to. She finally gave up on me. Yes...Victory.

My own "Dog Whisperer"

My owners have been watching this show "The Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic Channel (Channel 715 on Comcast). This guy is amazing. He can make dogs not sleep on the couch, not bark randomly, and not pull on the leash. I am not sure I like the idea. Check out the show and let me know what you think.
Today my owner decided to try out some techniques on an one hour walk (she also thinks I am a bit chubby and need the exercise). She kept me on a short leash, kept telling me to sit down or heel, and refused to let me snif and run all over the place. Could it be that my owner is try to take away my status as the Supreme Ruler of the house? Hmmm....
